I discovered my love of jewelry making in early 2021 and found Lucy Walker’s Metalsmith Academy at the same time. Talk about the stars being in alignment for me as I went from absolute beginner to having the confidence to start my own handmade jewelry business within months. So empowering!! The course is brilliant with outstanding instruction - videos, handouts, step by step processes, super handy tips and more. The projects are motivating and well-sequenced to build skills steadily. The creative kickstarters are awesome for stretching your creativity - see my image. The encouragement from Lucy and her team and the other members is excellent and affirming. The course is excellent value for money and the opportunity to win prizes along the way is an added bonus. My only regret is that the Aussie/USD exchange rate is a killer. I finished much of the course content anyway, but am glad that Lucy shares a lot of content on YouTube so I still get my fix.
Prior to joining LWJA i was frustrated and trying to figure so much out all by myself. Now I've found my home and all the support I was looking for here at the academy. I joined Lucy’s metalsmith academy when it first opened and it was the best decision I’ve ever made. When I joined all I could make was simple silver rings, self taught. A bit about me…. Well, I’m originally from Sheffield, England, but I have a serious love for travelling which is awesome because that’s given me the chance to live in some spectacular places around the world. I’ve worked as a jeweler in the US, UK, and Australia before coming to Malaysia. I’ve also lived in the Philippines for a year and a half and seem to spend half my life in Bangkok (the land of gemstones!)
Obviously my passion in life is jewelry, but fun fact: I rarely wear it. When I’m not working hard at the bench, I’m generally at my local CrossFit Box or playing with the doggos, so jewelry is generally just worn on special occasions for me.

My love in life is design!
I’ve been working as a jewelry designer for over 5 years now, since graduating from Birmingham School of Jewelry in the UK where I first met Lucy 8 years ago! Before joining Lucy Walker Jewelry, I worked for one of Malaysia’s top jewelry houses, working on one-of-a-kind custom pieces for some incredibly rich customers – The gemstones we used were what dreams are made of!
When it comes to design, I really feel like both hand rendering using various mediums, and computer aided design have their places and I enjoy working with both. What’s most important for me isn’t what we use to design, but how to get inspired. For me, inspiration is everywhere from the obvious such as a beautiful flower, to sitting in a bar and admiring the beautiful long legs on a bar stool! It’s all about just learning to look, and that’s what I hope to share here with you guys.
When I’m not designing, you’ll find me travelling, going for a run, cooking or playing with the dogs of course! They’re the real bosses of our studio!

So much to learn
I started with the academy on a two week free trial from something I saw on YouTube right after I decided I wanted to try metalsmithing. By the end I was signing up to be a full time member. The classes are extremely informative and while they do go through a specific project, all the tips, tricks and techniques in each class is truly invaluable. The best part in my opinion has to be the community. When you have a question, just ask and other members are right there to help with their own personal experience. Even after a little over a year of membership, I still have lots of classes to go through but I’ve learned so much! Highly recommend for anyone starting or trying to hone their skills.
Why I love Lucy's Metalsmithing Academy
I have been a jewelry wire artist for the past 20 years, but metalsmithing has always been my dream. The schools were too far away, too much time from home, and too much money. I just figured it wasn't in my cards. I never thought I could learn so much right online. So many tutorials and the resources will get you well informed. There is always something new to learn! In her classes you will get all the information on tools, procedures and an a video of how to proceed. She is so far from boring. Learning to work with metal can be complex and frustrating, but seriously you forget about it when you watch her video's. She if informative, fun, and inspiring. I don't know what else to say, but go watch one, and check her school out. Don't wait if this is your dream, Lucy's school has everything to get you going.

She has a very down to earth, easy style of teaching,, she always shows you different ways to achieve the same results regardless of your tools, she is always adding new skills and projects and she is funny as hell, which keeps the learning fun. I also love that she repeatedly reminds you that there is no one way to do things or that her way is the “right “ way. Lucy also shows you what not to do and you can go back and rewatch as many times and whenever you want.
